Department Overview
Departments within Technology that will be covered by this role are Investment Administration, Institutional, Retail, Central and Enterprise. These groups are multi disciplinary teams consisting of Programme Delivery Directors, Analysts, Architects and Project Managers who drive through the delivery of technology solutions as prioritised by the Businesses..

The Enterprise Architecture group work with stakeholders, both technology and business experts, to build a holistic view of the organisation's strategy, processes, applications and data assets. In addition, EA are responsible for defining core enterprise technology components, how they are used across the enterprise and ensuring effective management within FIL. 


Purpose of your role
The role of the Application Integration Architect within EA is to set the principles and guidelines for use of application integration tools across FIL. The individual will work with cross functional teams to ensure the product(s) strategy and roadmaps are articulated and communicated, standards have been defined, products are used appropriately, manage the governance process and to ensure that the end-to-end service is managed. They will operate across organisational and technology "silos" to drive common approaches and assist in major initiatives to construct the solution design and technical architecture. In addition, the role demands the need to govern projects against target architecture highlighting conformance and deviations.


Your key accountabilities
- Design and lead the implementation of an Enterprise Application Integration Architecture (EAIA) based on business requirements and technology strategies, as well as to rectify gaps and pain points within the current state.
- Understand, advocate and augment the principles of Enterprise Architecture (EA) strategies.
- Work with other technology units to provide commonly agreed enterprise solutions that are scalable, adaptable and highly available
- Oversee and facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology required to meet application integration needs
- Develop product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations
- Oversee and consult on technical architecture for project solutions to ensure the products and platforms within the EAIA are used where appropriate and standards are adopted
- Oversee, when it is necessary, modification of the technical architecture to accommodate project needs.
- Identify the organisational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures and culture) and financial impact of the EAIA.
- Document necessary technical architecture design, standards, principles and best practice guidelines
- Responsible for designing the governance activities associated with ensuring EAIA compliance.
- Produce roadmaps showing the phased implementation of the strategy and continual maintenance of the product
- Communicate the target architecture and its aims to a broad range of stakeholders
- Track emerging technologies, integrate new technologies into the blueprint, as appropriate
- Maintain enterprise architecture model; architecture blueprints/plans


Your skills and experience

Essential skills
- Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Middleware Architecture 
- Expert level experience of key FIL technologies WMB, MQ, BizTalk, J2EE, Java, XML with hands on experience in developing architecture and technical design
- Extensive of experience of working as an Enterprise Application Integration Architect within the Financial Services industry ideally in the Investment Management organisation
- Demonstrable experience in delivering within the architectural arena such as architecture development, strategy/roadmap definition and governance
- Experience or an understanding of the key architectural methodologies such as TOGAF, Zachman
- Excellent inter-personal, communication, documentation, facilitation & presentation skills
- Good customer awareness, with ability to manage customer expectations, customer-focused & service oriented
- Experience with all aspects of IT projects from architectures, system analysis and design through development 
- Excellent commercial/pragmatic abilities in order to understand and interpret requirements and address constraints of time, cost and quality 
- Demonstrable experience of senior stakeholder management and networking 
- The ability to speak confidently on technical subjects with limited preparation commanding respect and authority and to liaise with other areas. 


Desirable skills
- Detailed industry knowledge of Retail, Institutional, Investment Management and Investment Administration and all stages of the investment lifecycle from portfolio modeling, asset allocation, order management, compliance, trade/order execution, trade/order confirmation, trade/order settlement, valuation (fund and client), performance measurement, client reporting, record keeping processes
