Relevant Experience: 6+years
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Designing and creating DB2 structures including logical (optional) and physical data modeling, table design and index design.
• Creating and altering tables and indexes in test and production environments, maintaining data in tables and executing utilities against DB2 objects.
• Reviewing SQL and utility changes for design, performance, accuracy, and standards prior to implementation.
• Providing DB2 support to programming staff.
• Assisting team members in documenting and defining the technical requirements of the applications.
• Coding, testing and implementing DB2–specific software solutions to meet both functional and technical design specifications.
• Building expertise with new technologies, software, methods, and tools.
• Maintaining and repairing applications to provide quality performance in accordance with technical and functional specifications.
• Performing peer reviews on program code, test cases, and unit test results.
• Providing DB2 development and production support (on-call) 24 hours per day.
• Monitoring production, DB2 performance and implementing improvements as necessary.
• Ensuring adherence to efficient testing methodologies.
• Assisting in the creation, execution, and documentation of test scripts to ensure that an application or technical environment meets performance requirements (technical, functional and user interface).
• Ensuring that the programming modifications do not introduce application inefficiencies.
Skills and Job Requirements:
• 6+ years of experience as DB2 database administrator for z/0S.
• Knowledge of DB2 for Z/OS version 7 or higher.
• Knowledge of DB2 for Z/OS system architecture.
• Knowledge of Relational Database design and architecture.
• Experience in creating physical data models & accurately reflecting the data requirements.
• Experience in writing DDL to perform changes to DB2 objects.
• Experience in creating utilities jobs and routines for the maintenance of DB2 objects.
• Experience in utilizing performance monitoring tools to determine program in-efficiencies.
• Experience in working with development staff providing assistance with SQL, program architecture, performance issues and other areas related to data integrity.
• Experience in automating day-to-day tasks to increase overall productivity.
• Knowledge of the integration of information systems in a 24/7 processing environment. • Understanding of transactional access to DB2 through methods such as JDBC and CICS.
• Experience in analyzing an EXPLAIN to assist in performance tuning.
• Expertise in using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, Power Point, and Visio.
